Is your dog more popular than you? A new study suggests that dogs are going through their own friends more than you spend with yours.
The poll of 2,000 parents of North dogs -Americans found that 54% believe that their dogs have their own groups of friends among other dogs. Sixty-nine percent of them said that their dog even has a best dog friend.
Eight in ten believe that their dogs feel “very” happy when they get to see their friends, but 69% believe that their dogs should be able to see their own friends even more than they do today.
Almost two -thirds (63%) believe that their dog stays with his friends more than the parent with his own friends.
Compassed by field Bow Wow, a daycare and dog boat franchise, and by Talker Research, the survey revealed that 91% of dog parents believe that it is important for their dogs to socialize, providing a base for friendship creation.
In fact, 83% said they feel a “sense of performing” as pets when their dog is well -socialized and capable of making new friends.
Seventy-nine percent agreed that they felt that they and their dog live their best life when the dog is able to socialize.
Among the respondents who said that their dog has their own friends, the number of benefits of socialization was widespread: dogs feel happier (55%), they have improved social skills (48%), they feel less lonely (48%), have a better sense of well -being (46%) and have a higher quality of life (45%).
Seven out of ten respondents (71%) swear that their dogs are social “extremely” or “significantly”, warming up in new humans and dogs immediately or in a short period of time after the initial shyness.
“We all need friends and this includes our dogs. It is clear to see how socialization and friendship can improve the quality of life of dogs,” said field health and animal behavior Bow Wow, Erin Askeland, M.SC., CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “Dogs are like us, being able to see other dogs and interact with them on a regular basis do very well for their mental and emotional well -being, and it also makes their parents happier.
“That said, not all dogs are a social butterfly. Some prefer the quiet company, a smaller circle of canine friends or only their human family, and this is perfectly well. Respect each dog’s personality is key to helping them to prosper.”
The study also found more than a third (36%) of the respondents said that they bring their dogs to daycare on an average, on average.
And 92% of the parents of pets who said they bring their puppies to daycare, at least three times a month, they also said that they like to see their dog making friends, it fills them with a sense of joy.
Once they arrived at daycare, parents said that their dog came out eager to greet their best dog friend (30%), a group of dogs they know (25%) and even carers (24%).
More than half (52%) of dog parents believe that taking their dog to daycare can improve their socialization skills.
“Places like dog letters can play a vital role in facilitating socialization,” Erin continued. “Like humans we have our places to socialize with our friends, dogs deserve to have a place that cares, as a high quality dog daycare, and allows them to be themselves with their friends.”
